Board of Appeals

The board of appeals shall consist of five (5) regular members appointed by the Mayor as follows: 

  1. One for five (5) years; one for four (4) years; one for three (3) years; one for two (2) years; one for one (1) year. 
  2. Thereafter, each new member shall serve for a term of 5 years, unless reappointed, or until a successor has been appointed. *The building official shall be an ex officio member of the board but shall have no vote on any matter before the board.* 
  3. The Mayor shall appoint two alternate members who shall be called by the board chairperson to hear appeals during the absence or disqualification of a member. Alternate members shall possess the qualifications required for board membership and shall be appointed for five (5) years, unless reappointed or until a successor has been appointed. 
  4. Members must be residents of Blair or residents of the area over which the City is authorized to exercise extraterritorial zoning and subdivision regulations. 

Qualifications

The board of appeals shall consist of five individuals, with preference given to the following professions or disciplines: 

  1. Design professional with architectural experience or a builder or superintendent of building construction. 
  2. Design professional with structural engineering experience. 
  3. Design professional with mechanical and plumbing engineering experience or mechanical contractor.
  4. Design professional with electrical engineering experience or an electrical contractor. 
  5. Professional with fire protection engineering experience or a fire protection contractor.
