The Citizen’s Police Academy is an eight-week orientation program conducted by the Blair Police Department. Classes are one evening a week beginning in September and typically last 2 ½ to 3 hours.
During the academy, students will participate in a series of classes covering a multitude of law enforcement topics including:
The History of the Blair Police Department;
Police-Community Relations;
Criminal Investigations;
Response to Resistance-Defensive Tactics;
Pursuit Driving & Traffic Stops;
Narcotics Investigations; and,
Department K9 Program.
Participants will also be able to ride with a Blair police officer on patrol and attend firearms training conducted by a state certified firearms instructor.
The benefits of the Citizen’s Police Academy are:
Enhanced communication between the police department & community;
Educate the community about the department’s mission and role;
Familiarize citizen’s with commonly faced problems; and,
Elicit cooperation from community members.
